Check Out Dallas County!

Dallas is the seventh largest city and the fourth largest high technology center in the U.S.

Between 1989-1994 Dallas led the nation in relocation and expansion activity. Well known for apparel and fashion merchandising, Dallas hosts over 500 foreign companies and 24 consulates.

Dallas boasts an abundance of leisure time activities; from the Dallas Cowboys and the Mavericks, to the Dallas Symphony and the Dallas Opera. Additionally, there are 5,000 restaurants in Dallas, more per capita than New York City!

Coppell is situated in between Dallas and Fort Worth with a growing population of 25,000. With seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school, Coppell has one of the lowest student-teacher ratios in Dallas/Fort Worth. Coppell offers fifteen public parks and four major medical centers.

Metrocrest, Addison, Carrollton, and Farmers Branch have maintained a close-knit, neighborly atmosphere throughout their growth. Excellent municipal services, outstanding parks, and award-winning school districts add to the area's charm.

Plano is one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. Many major businesses, including J.C. Penney, Capital Wire and Cable, and Texas Instruments have made their home in this area in recent years. Plano provides 33 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools, and 2 senior high schools. There are also over 17 private and parochial schools in the area. Plano also offers a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities.

North Dallas, which includes the areas of Preston Hollow, Oak Lawn, and Bluff View, provides a lifestyle for everyone: historic areas, new construction, condominiums, high rise living, and single family homes in all price ranges. The Dallas Independent School District is the 8th largest district in the U.S., which also provides a wide variety of alternative education, special education and gifted student programs. North Dallas has excellent shopping, recreation and entertainment facilities; including The Galleria, the Meadows Museum, and even seven golf courses!

McKinney, Allen and Frisco are small, but growing communities located in North Collin County. They are far enough from Dallas to provide a relaxed, small-town environment, yet close enough to take advantage of activities and services. These areas each have 6 or 7 elementary schools, several middle schools and one high school. In McKinney there is one ACT Academy. Collin County Community College offers a two-year program, serving over 10,000 students within multiple campuses. There are several shopping malls and shopping specialty stores nearby. For your weekly entertainment you will be happy to find seasonal festivals and tours, Frisco Community Theatre, many city parks with baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer and swimming facilities.

Flower Mound, Lewisville, and Highland Village are located in Denton County, the fourth fastest growing county in the United States, just 22 miles northwest of downtown Dallas and only 10 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The many lakes in the area make a water recreation a way of life. Golf courses, shopping malls, local theatre, symphonies and medical facilities are available. Lewisville's growing economic environment has provided major employers such as Texas Instruments, Xerox, G.T.E., Vista Ridge Mall and Columbia HCA Hospital. Located next to a 23,000-acre lake, Lewisville offers many beautiful housing opportunities. Flower Mound boasts oak-clustered settings of broad price ranges with some on the shore of Lake Grapevine.

Far North Dallas encompasses the areas north of LBJ Freeway (635), including Northwood Hills, Prestonwood, Preston Trails, Estates West, and Bent Tree. Home prices range from $120,000 to $3,000,000. In this area, amenities are abundant with glamorous shopping centers, convenient strip centers, golf courses and entertainment centers. The Dallas Independent School District is the 8th largest in the United States. Also, some students in this area attend the Richardson Independent School District, recently selected as one of "America's 25 Best School Systems". There are many private schools located in this area too.

Real Estate Tips
Financing Your Home >Finicky Financiers

Buying an old house to fix up has an attraction for many people. If you can find a house with charm and character, a renovation may enable you to create just the living environment that you want. You should start with a good real estate agent to help you locate the right house and recommend lenders who make both acquisition and construction loans.

Financing a renovation is perhaps the most difficult part of the whole project, especially if the house needs extensive work. Few banks will make these loans to people who are not professional developers. You should prepare for your loan application by having a written proposal. It helps to have an engineer's report or architectural plans and to include estimates from contractors covering the costs and timetables for the work to be done. Your real estate agent can help you put together a market analysis of the neighborhood to show that you will not be over-improving the property compared with other homes in the area.
